3xgreat grandfather James Riley
« on: Saturday 02 December 23 09:57 GMT (UK) »
My 3 x great grandfather James Riley was born in Belfast in about 1835. His fathers name was Samuel. By 1856 he was in Liverpool. He was catholic. That is all i know. Does anybody have any tips for delving further? A cursory delve on the internet has led me to believe that records do not exist. Is this the case? Any advice would ve so appreciated. Thanks. Clare 😊

You have posted on Antrim Resources & Offers sub-board which is for resources not queries.

Just click on 'report to moderator' and ask for it to be moved to the Antrim sub-board.

Good luck.

When this request is moved to the correct board, can you give all the information you have, and the sources.

"My 3 x great grandfather James Riley was born in Belfast in about 1835. His fathers name was Samuel. By 1856 he was in Liverpool. He was catholic. That is all i know?"

Where do you see his birthplace to be Belfast?

Where do you see his father's name to be Samuel?

What happened in Liverpool, 1856, for this to be a reference date?

Where do you see him to be Catholic?

Firstly, thank you both for replying.
Ok, so I’ve made an error about James Riley being catholic - I have just double checked and I am wrong about that - so please ignore.
James can be seen on the 1961 census living with his wife Elizabeth and son Arthur at 10 Brownlow hill, and again on the 1971 census with Elizabeth, Arthur, James, william and Thomas. The 1971 census stated his birthplace as Belfast.
James and elizabeth (lemon)wedding cert dated 21.09.1856 at Edge Hill states Samuel as James’ father.  I hope this makes sense.
Thanks
Clare 😊

Do you not mean the 1861 and 1871 censuses?
