Searching for Gt.Uncle Alexander Quinn
« on: Saturday 02 December 23 14:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi, hoping some forum members could point me in the direction regarding my paternal great uncle
Alexander Quinn
B. 28th July, 1884
    Lisdoart, Aughnacloy, Co.Tyrone.
Parents: James Quinn and Margaret Ferris

When James Quinn died 24th December 1896, Margaret and some of her sons moved to Belfast. Alexander , his mother and 5 of his siblings appear in the 1901 census of Ireland. They were residing at 38 Leoville Street, Belfast.
After this the trail for Alexander goes cold. Some hints on Ancestry suggest Alexander married and died in Scotland . The suggested spouse was Barbara Bartlett. I checked this on Scotlands People and have discounted it.
I’m sorry I cannot add links to this post (technically challenged).
Hoping for some suggestions, thanking you all in advance.

Geraldine

Looks like Alexander was born 25 July 1884 at Lisdoart. What do others think?

There is an Alexander Quinn, born 25 July 1882, who appears on a WWI Draft Registration card in Detroit, Michigan in 1918; names wife Mary at 485 Cass Street as next of kin.  By profession, he is a salesman for A.J. Heinz Co.  British by ethnicity.

There is a marriage for an Alexander Quinn, aged 35, born Ireland, says "served against Germany" written above the entry; who marries a Mary Diezel in Detroit on November 27, 1919; names his parents as Wm. Quinn and Margaret Ferry.

The 1920 Census seems to show the couple in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He is 34 born in Ireland, a salesman of food products, along with wife Mary, and daughter Thelma, aged 6, and mother-in-law, Louisa Diezel.

WWII Draft Card gives birth date as July 25, 1885 in Belfast, aged 57 (in 1942), in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Next of kin is a Mrs. A. Quinn.

1930 Census in Fort Wayne has Alexander Quinn, aged 39, born Northern Ireland, with wife Clara, and step-daughter Mildred Schlebecker, and mother-in-law Kathryn Klein; he is a grocer operating his own store.  Immigrated in 1908.

His marriage record to Clara indicates he was born in Pennsylvania, and names his parents as James Quinn and Margaret Ferry.  Said he had not previously been married. Makes you wonder if he was actually divorced or not.

1940 Census has him with Clara:

Died 1945 in Fort Wayne:

Thank you so much Eileen for your time and trouble. It’s greatly appreciated. T the records have give me food for thought. I have found some of the Quinn siblings to be quite economical and inventive when stating their DOB and marital status, so the Alexander you found fits the bill in that regard lol.

Regards
