A George Ernest Goddard was b Hoxne (RD for Wilby) 1872 - no mmn.  However - birth reg was Sept 1872 which doesn’t support the birth month on the 1939 register

The 1891 from LizzieL
www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QS8R-H2M
The other children are mmn Mortimer/Mutimer and this seems to be George born before his mothers marriage to George Goddard in 1874.
George Henry Mutimer** Mutumer on FMPast & Familysearch

Thanks for the interest shown and replies received so far. It seems certain that EV and Harriet had at least two children viz Ethel Howard b 1895 and Doris Ellen b 1898. Freebmd shows Ethel Howard as "Bickerdite" which is why I missed it. However, my main question is why I can't find any reference to Ernest Victor Bickerdike anywhere (and I have searched for him as Ernest V, and surname Bickerd*).
Nor is there anything for Harriet Bickerdike, other than in Yorkshire where the family name clearly originates. However, the 1911 census shows Harriet (now Goddard) as born London and living in Hastings, with a daughter Doris Ellen of the right age, so I agree this must be ours. But then that creates more questions :
1) where were they (EV, Harriet and daughters) in 1901?
2) what happened to EV?
3) when did Harriet marry Goddard?
4) is it possible that EV changed his name to George Bickerdike Goddard, or is this too far into the realms of fantasy?
As I say, this is a distant branch and I am not able to pursue subsequent generations yet. But I would like to be able to quote some subsequent info on EV and Harriet beyond 1893 (or now, 1898).
But more immediately, after considering all the ramifications well into the early hours, most of all I would like some sleep!  :D

Hastings Christ Church baptisms:
9 Jun 1895 Ethel Howard d of George and Harriett Goddard, George bootmaker of 2 Hughenden Place

Carole’s posted GRO registration for Ethel Howard Bickerdite at #4 Q2 1895

Added: George Bickerdike-Goddard (hyphenated) appears on Electoral Registers in Hastings 1914-15, which ties up with 1921.

1871 census

Piece: 702
Fo: 17
Page 27

In 1871 Ellen Mortimer (sic) b Whilby, Suffolk, age 16 is domestic servant at 1 Elm Terrace, Battersea.
Occupation of Head of House: ‘keeps lodgers’
At the same address (although listed as ‘Head’ rather than Lodger) is George Bickerdike, age 50, an unmarried gas engineer b Huddersfield, Yorkshire.

There is a correction to Ellen’s surname on Ancestry suggesting someone has been round this block before.

George married in 1875, to someone 20 years his junior.
