I was born when my Mother was 45 so not uncommon for women to have a late baby :)

If William and Alice do marry in Buckingham which now is most likely then Abthorpe to Buckingham is 10 miles.
We could look at William Buckingham born 1711 in Croughton Northants as that is also 10 miles from Buckingham.

Buckingham would offer employment both in town and on the Stowe estate with building work taking place directed by Viscount Cobham to increase the size of the house....just a possibilty.
The Croughton baptism gives father as Fernando and mother Mary there is a brother John b 1708 and Fernando 1706.

Thanks Tazzie and Trish.

I have been trying to find the Shermans.

There are a number of Sherman / Sharman families in Northants spread out across the county but nothing jumps out as being the correct family, just a pity we can't access more Buckinghamshire PRs

I know families did move further afield than we might think, you do wonder how they found out about things like new building projects when they were illiterate and virtually no newspapers.

I also look to try and work out what roads would be  available at the time, there is a Roman road close to N M so something like that would be in use.

I will have another look at the Buckinghams later to see if |I can find any more clues.

Well hopefully there was only one Ferdinando Buckingham, if so he was baptized at Eynsham Oxfordshire in 1666 and I suspect Ferdinando junior stayed in Croughton as about 100 years later there is a burial of a Ferdinando Buckingham. so guess the name was carried down.
