Please help identifying Eddie
« on: Thursday 07 December 23 10:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have a copy of a nine-page letter dated Sat 3 April 1943 written by an RAF serviceman of Nelson, Nr Treharris, who was in bomber command during WW2 to 'Dear Eddie' who it seems from the letter, was also in the RAF.

Can someone please help!! I know it is a big ask with so few details but I am trying to identify Eddie:
Assuming 'Eddie' was from the same village (Nelson),  I trawled local newspapers and found a likely candidate (please see attached snippets).  I would appreciate any help given.

Thank you

Have you checked the 1939 register?  You have his address and his fathers name and occupation.  I found the entry for his father within a minute

Use the other entries to find their mmn then look for a birth for "Eddie" to find his birthyear.  You can then look for him on the 1939 register

Rootschat does not allow publication of details from the 1939 register that are only available via

Where does he fit into your FH?

Hi Carol

I'm just about to leave the library to check the 1939 Register.

Not related, I am writing an article for GHS on his pal who served in bomber command during WW2 and thought it would be a nice touch if I could identify Eddie and include him in the story.

Looks like he preferred to use his middle name.

He died 2012 Gloucs per GRO online.  Birth registered March qtr 1918 but death reg shows birthyear 1917 so presumably born back end of 1917

He left a will - probate entry shows date of death was 11.6.2012
