Welsh Newspapers online - Evening Express September 1904 mentions ‘Mr Hall’s shop, 9 Wyndham Arcade’.

1893 - advertisement re Knitting Machines - ‘Birmingham Bazarre, 9, Wyndham Arcade’

Thank you so much - the 1893 ad is particularly relevant!

I was wondering if there would be any archive records for Wyndham Arcades and who traded there, I know it was built in 1887, my ancestors were there from 1891 and I am trying to find out who was named as the trader and how long they were there for.

Directories list Mrs Elizabeth Davies at number 9 from 1893 to 1897 but per this tree on Ancestry she died there in 1891:  https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/7745803/person/-309390959/facts

Thank you for this Shaun! The Ancestry tree is mine - the death in 1891 is of Elizabeth Burns (22yrs).
Her mother had started the business of Fancy Goods in Birmingham first and Elizabeth was shown there at Constitution Hill on the April 1891 census. She died 4 months later in 9 Wyndham Arcade, occ  "Asistant in Fancy Goods shop". Her mother Sarah was present at the birth, and gives her address as Constitution Hill, Birmingham. So I guessed they must have opened a new shop in Cardiff between April and July as the census tenant was unrelated.

My thought was that Sarah's mother, Elizabeth Davies, was running the new shop, and niece Elizabeth had gone to help her out (she died of TB). Sarah and other family members started further Fancy Goods shops in Weston-super-Mare around the late 1890s, but I wanted to find out if my hunch re her sister carrying on the business in Cardiff for a few more years was correct, and this appears to back it up. I believe the sister carried on at another couple of Cardiff addresses - much later in 1922 her name comes up in an advert for the WSM address, too.

Was this Kelly's Directory?

Thank you so much for your help.  :)

heywood - can you tell me how to find the 1893 ad please? I'm having no luck searching for it on Welsh Newspapers online. I've tried variations in my search box without success.
