Ann Boyd
« on: Saturday 09 December 23 14:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Looking for any evidence of this woman, Ann Boyd, prior to her marriage in 1872.

All I know is that she was born in Sunderland (according to all the census after she married), around 1850/1851.

She married Tanjore (Tangore) Henry Patterson in Sunderland during the September quarter of 1872.
Henry was baptised using his strange first name, and married using it, but was known as just Henry throughout the census returns, his surname spelt as either Patterson or Paterson.
He had been born in Birkenhead in 1850, parents James and Ann

The couple appear to have had at least six children, all born in Sunderland; James, born c 1874, Herbert, born c 1881, died 1884, Charles Edward, born on the 25th November 1880 (from 1939 register), James Henry, born c 1887, Ernest, born c1890, and Violet, born c 1892.

Henry died in 1900 - buried on the 28th December, aged 50 years.
Ann died in 1929 - age given as 78 years.

I cannot find a single children's birth registration anywhere, even using the Sunderland Registrars Site, and only know Ann's maiden name from her marriage.

Can anybody trace her, or any of her children's births?

Thanks
Sue

Was she single when she married?
Did she name a father and his occupation?
Are the witness names helpful.

Only have marriage registration - I'm guessing she was single (as opposed to widowed), as she would have only been 21 or 22 years of age.
From the code on the Sunderland Registrars site it wasn't a C of E marriage.

Also, just realised....son, Charles Edward, was the child probably named as 'Herbert' on the 1881 census.

The entire family are a nightmare.

Thanks
Sue

Their first son, James Henry, was born in Sunderland on the 23rd June 1873 - mother's maiden name given as 'Voys'

She married Tanjore (Tangore) Henry Patterson in Sunderland

Certificate would give more information like her residence at time of marriage and other useful things heywood mentions.

Even if she was a young woman it's still possible she was widowed, people married young in those days.

There's an Ann E Boyd granddaughter age 2 from Durham in 1851 with the Renney family.

One to check out if you haven't already - even if only to rule out.

Birth for an Ann Boyd Jun 1850 Gateshead - have you ruled her out?
