We can maybe rule out Anthony Reeve born 1756 in Thompson. An Anthony Reeve was buried in 1772 in Thompson, son of Robert and Elizabeth. No age given but I would say it was the one born 1756, so was 16 when he died.

I did find an Anthony Reeve baptised in 1755 in Great Hockham with Little Hockham son of John and Alice. And he had a brother Robert Reeve baptised in 1770 in Hockham, son of John and Alice.

And an Anthony Roove, baptised in 1755 in Norwich St Lawrence, son of William and Jenny.

Thank you coombs and amondg

I have found an Anthony Reeve birth in 14 Mar 1773 Thompson, Norfolk, England, baptised 4th July 1773.  So again this is different to the 1769 we expect from the death entry, but as you say maybe that death entry was wrong.

The parents I find are Robert Reeve and Elizabeth Reeve.

Considering your point earlier to use the marriage witness Robert Reeve as a lead, first I looked for an older sibling with that name, that led me to find a Robert REVE (mispelling of Reeve?) showing on FREEREG as baptised 21 Oct 1764 in Thompson (Ancestry records have an imagine to match this date and also show another image with date Oct 1765 confusingly!) and this record has the same parents as the Anthony Reeve I found.

Hard to know if these are right.  If this is right, the marriage witness Robert Reeve could be the father or the brother.  How would you know?

Many thanks

I am wondering if the 1773 baptism is the right one. I found a burial in June 1772 of an Anthony Reeve in Thompson but the 14 March 1773 born one I cannot find a burial for. Obviously he was named after his deceased older brother.

A Robert Reeve wed Eliz Porter in 1753 in Little Snoring. He was a blacksmith of Berney and Eliz of Hilderston. However these are quite a few miles north of the Thompson area.

EDITED - missed a child and made an assumption.

They don't appear to have followed the usual naming pattern for the children.
They were living in West Lynn, where Phillis was born when the first son arrived, so perhaps instead of naming him for his paternal grandfather, they named him for his maternal grandfather.

John 1797 West Lynn                                                      Maternal grandfather
Elizabeth 1799 West Lynn  (Reeves)                                 Paternal grandmother
Phillis 1801  buried 31 August 1801 (Reeves)                    Mother
Robert 1803                                                                   Paternal grandfather
William 1806   - Clench Warton                                        ?
Matthew 1807                                                             - Maternal Uncle
Susannah 1808                                                               ?
Phillis 1810                                                                     Mother
James 1812                                                                    ?
Brason 1814*                                                                 Mother's maiden name
Anthoney 1816  East Bradenham                                      Father

Hi amondg,

Thank you for this.  I'd found those children already by using the FREEREG (now that I'm aware of it), and that is when I found that Anthony Reeve looks to have a brother Robert Reeve and well as a child Robert Reeve.

I then started looking for the parents of Anthony Reeve, trying to get back further on the Reeve line, and find Robert Reeve and Elizabeth Reeve.

Noticing that you focussed on looking at all the children, is that always the best way to piece together information before you try to go back and find parents?

I hope you don't mind me asking.  I am still learning.

Many thanks

Not the best way, but something to consider.
Many families used the naming pattern but nothing is ever 100%.

Notes
Daughter Susannah 1808 married William Pye 24 March 1835 at Ovington.
Witness Anthony Reeve who made his mark and Phillis Reeve who signed.

1851 Brason/ Breason 1814 was a servant, Ag Lab. working in Ovington

James 1812  married Elizabeth Purdy 1836 at East Bradenham
