Anfield Cemetry
« on: Thursday 14 December 23 16:59 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather and several of his close relatives are buried in Anfield Cemetery.
I have the grave number.... can anybody tell me if I can park near to the Cemetery or even if there's a car park in the cemetery. Also is there an office or enquiry point that could help me locate the whereabouts of the graves.
Are there restricted hours when it's open?
I know the cemetery is very big so obviously don't want a wasted journey as I'm about 40 miles away.
Thanks in advance. :)

You can drive into the cemetary from Priory Rd - just before the entrance to the Crematorium.  There isn’t an actual car park but you can park on the path near to the grave.  There is also free parking on Priory Rd but given the size of the Cemetary I would recommend driving in

I think it closes around 4pm at this time of year - best check first Tel 0151 233 3004

Do you know which Section the grave is in?

Have you established whether there is a headstone on the grave?

Thanks Carol, that's most useful.

I have 3 receipts from 1943 showing Section 11 No 1737.
The certificate shows the grave has 4 places .... so I don't know who occupies the 4th space.

I also have a receipt showing my great grandmother was interred in 1930 in Section 11 grave 2216 but again I don't know if anyone else is in this grave.

I know there was a headstone on this grave with comments small white stone, straight top, square shoulders.
I'm pretty sure the other grave would have a headstone too

Have you checked www.findagrave.com

Many of the older headstones in Anfield were removed some years ago under "Health & Safety" as they had become unstable.

Most of the burial registers for Anfield Cemetery can be viewed on Ancestry (see link below) Ancestry is free in a lot of libraries including libraries in Liverpool:-

Thanks Blue 70.
I thought I'd asked for info before, but I just wasn't certain from the info gained before that with an 80 mile round trip that I was confident enough to actually find the graves.
I usually get a £5 a month offer on Ancestry  once Xmas is over, so my intention is to take advantage of the cut rate then and see if I can find more. Then come the better weather I'll have a run down to the Cemetery.
The 3 relations that I know of in the grave in section 11 no 1737 are Joseph Henry Griffiths (1943) , Edwin Bromley Griffiths (1943) and Amy Gertrude Griffiths (1947). Edwin was my Great grandfather. The other 2 were my great  uncle and aunt.
Edwins wife was buried in Section 11 grave 2216 in 1930.
My conundrum is who is in the 4th space in grave 1737 and who else may be in 2216.....
Thanks for all comments.
