You've convinced me that if I get myself organised with as much info as possible then a short subscription to Archion would be worthwhile. My luck here was finding the Family Register for the husband and wife in this case, as this gave the date and place of birth for Max. All I have to go on for others is the English Censuses and they mostly only give Germany or Saxony as the place of birth.
I really do appreciate your help, as I'm sure do the many others you've helped on this site.
