Mary Brookes 1841 Census Clapton Square
« on: Saturday 16 December 23 05:35 GMT (UK) »
Mary Brookes, a possible relative, born c. 1800, is shown on the 1841 Census as living in Clapton Square in the Borough of Tower Hamlets. These appear to have been 1 person dwellings, presumably flats. She is described as being of independent means. She would not have been well-off, but possibly a pensioned off servant of an aristocratic family. Is anyone familiar with these dwellings and is that a likely place for such a person to have lived at that time?
Thank you.

This may be of interest https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clapton_Square   and on the Charles Booth Poverty Maps of London it is shown  as Middle Class well to do - check the legend https://booth.lse.ac.uk/map/16/-0.0563/51.5490/100/0?marker=534869,185132

Per the census she was of independent means and had one servant living with her.

Thank you Shaun!  Actually, looking more closely, it look as though she may have been the last person in Clarence Place, rather than the first person in Clapton Square.  What do you think?  I don't suppose it makes much difference, I assume that both addresses were a similar standard of dwellings.
