Man In Question - John "Jack" Burke
« on: Saturday 16 December 23 08:03 GMT (UK) »
John "Jack" Burke

Born Abt 1867 Cahir, Tipperary, Ireland ( Tipperary, Ireland established from his death certificate and also as himself as informant on his first childs birth certificate as Cahir, Tipperary, Ireland.)

Married Clara Owen 16 August 1890, Amos Street, Cooktown, Queensland, Australia.

Died 2 Aug 1906, Walker Street, Cooktown, Queensland, Australia. COD: Nephritis.

Buried in an unmarked grave in The Cooktown General Cemetery. RC

On Johns Death Certificate is listed his Father as John Burke and his mother as Ellen Quirk. The informant was his wife Clara.

Upon seeking out John Burkes arrival into Australia and using dates from the various certificates, it could be established as the following:
John was born in 1867. He married in 1890. He died in 1906. He also spent twenty years in Queensland. Therefore he travelled to Australia at age 19 years old in 1886.

I am therefore looking to establish this arrival for John Burke.

Many people were not meticulous record keepers and as later details were provided by his wife for death cert, and error of a year or two is not uncommon.
He was the best bit from the passenger list.

Marriage certificate 1890, John BURKE / Clara OWEN....can you please list all the information on this document.

Died 1906.....did he leave a young family?.   What happened next?....did his widow remarry?

If she did not remarry, how did widowed Sarah support her children?
