William Carson
« on: Sunday 17 December 23 19:28 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find a confirmed death date for William Carson born circa 1838 Ireland, married Mary Ann Mitchell  1865 when he was 24, ( so born 1841)St Anne’s, Belfast, Ireland. The 1871 census aged 36 ( so born 1835) . The 1891 census aged 47(so born 1844) The 1901 census finds him living with his wife and four children at 31 Orchard Street, Meadowside, Renfrew, Scotland aged 63, ( so born 1838). Quite a variation in ages but born somewhere between 1835 and 1844 and so with  a potential death date of 1908, aged somewhere between  64 and 73
I have a death date on my tree of 3rd March 1908, Paisley, Renfrewshire ( but I have no source to back this up and fear I have just copied from someone else’s tree 😳).
I cannot find a matching entry on “ Scotlands People “, the nearest entry a William Carson died 1907 , New Monkland doesn’t match ?

Have you looked for him on the 1911 census?

Was his wife still alive in 1911?  If so - is she shown as a widow on the 1911 census?

Ancestry have transcribed him as Larson in 1901

I think this is the entry you mention. It is showing on SP as:

WILLIAM CARSON
Age 58
1908
Ref 573 / 1 / 350
Paisley

You might want to consider viewing it to at least include or dismiss it. It is the only death showing in Renfrewshire between 1901 - 1911 for a William *arson, born anywhere between 1830-50.

As always thank you everyone for your input and a great result. I wouldn’t have looked at the William Carson aged 58 because the discrepancy in age but he is definitely my man.
