Need help finding John Aldwinckle please
« on: Monday 18 December 23 07:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Newbie post here...

Need help with locating BIRTH / CENSUS / DEATH info on my paternal GG Grandfather - John ALDWINCKLE please.

- He married Mary Ann ELLIS at Grosmont, North Yorks on 8th Jan 1876. Marriage records states his father as John ALDWINCKLE (Labourer).

- The 1881 census (Grosmont) states he was born CORBY, Northamptonshire, born approx. 1855

- I don't know the date of his death, but it was before 19th Sept. 1899 when his widow re-married William ROOKS in West Hartlepool.

Thanks

Background for John: Parents Vincent Chapman Bunckley Ardwinckle(1824-1914) & Alice Gray (1825-1868)

ALDWINCKLE, JOHN  ROWLATT     mother's maiden name GRAY
GRO Reference: 1854  D Quarter in KETTERING  Volume 03B  Page 129

1861 census ref 958 16 25 Corby

Marriage you have--but his father is incorrect

1881 census --you have records.

Last child of John Aldwinckle with Mary Ann Ellis.

ALDWINKLE, EDITH  JANE     mother's maiden name ELLIS
GRO Reference: 1885  S Quarter in HARTLEPOOL  Volume 10A  Page 132

By 1891 census Mary Ann Aldwinckle nee' Ellis is living with William Rooks __Transcribed as Brooks
ref 4013 96 2

Daughter of William Rooks and Mary Ann Ellis--appears in 1901 censs.

ROOKS, MARY  LIZZIE     mother's maiden name ELLIS
GRO Reference: 1891  S Quarter in MIDDLESBROUGH  Volume 09D  Page 568

So the theory is John Aldwinckle either died 1884/5-1891 or he parted from Mary Ann.

Thanks SS

Seen Vincent as the father option previously, but rejected as the record definitely says John - any thoughts why?

On the cert. Mary Ann Ellis is a widow when marrying William Rooks - hadn’t considered he’d left the country.

CORRECTED spelling mistake
The Arizona census 1900 for John B Aldwinckle age 43 is not your man.

Voter registration he is Bartholomew John Aldwinckle, became a citizen in 1896 and later moved to California, circa 1900 died Kings County California 7 November 1938 age 82.
He is the son of Bartholomew and Amy from Cottingham, per others research
States he emigrated 1881.

The passenger list could be your man leaving in 1885
