Diary week ending 24th December
« on: Monday 18 December 23 10:28 GMT (UK) »
Morning folks

It is a nice bright day here  but not sure if I trust it, there is a sneaky  cloud up there.

Seem to have plenty to do with week so got to get my wits about me

I have missed this year's Carol services  as I wont  drive  in the dark now,  my own fault but I feel I have missed out.

I  am sick visiting  this afternoon with the vicar, 2 women who have either dementia  or altzheimers,  quite rightly he won't visit on his own, years ago I heard of someone I knew who had big memory problems and  almost threw the vicar out , but it is sensible he doesn't go alone.

Enjoy your day everyone

Seeing as I've shared link to this thread, better make a contributory post at least.

Pace yourself for the week LM, says one who tends to burn candle at both ends!  Rather a warm night after the heat of the day here, house was shut up most of the day as we were out. With our move I had been referred to a different hospital across town this time but that all went well as was the result, previously those periodic visits have been much closer to home. Able to avoid the parking fees, husband had a couple of errands to fill in the few hours and was rung by nurses when I was ready to be picked up. He was going to visit a friend who is a patient there at present, however friend is recovering from covid he contracted there and with Christmas so close and being with family thought better not to take any chances. We did both have booster jabs again last Thursday though and all good with that, just a walk in at local pharmacy and no queue just regular procedures.

Still no letter re the “ urgent”EchoScan, so phoned, and  spoke to the Specialist’s Secretary, says the Specialist has not looked at it yet!
She put it at the top on top of non urgent ones,I was not happy really with that but she did assure me later results were on top of earlier ones so she would put them in proper date order and mine was the earliest .

Now my new eye drops- can cause slow - a very slow - heartbeat!
You can’t win can you!

Stoppit! Mardy thing!
Just bottomed the bathroom —- no pun intended— then on  Thursday  just a light  quick do, loo, washbasin and bath ,so burglars will think “ What a clean home” ——  ::)
No post again today ,only nine cards and some hand posted.

I have nowhere to lay my clothes out for packing — I like to have everything ready and finally pack the evening before I travel.
There is someone using the spare bedroom, It might be my son.

Ah well, things to do and places to go.
Look after yourselves folks .
Viktoria.

Wet yet again today (Tuesday) '  More mince  pies at a local charity coffee morning (we have a lot of these).  They were much better than mine, which tend to develop a shape of their own whilst cooking.

Our village has a "living Advent calendar", at which houses light their decorated windows each evening, one by one. Even the school decorates its window.  You can buy a map which shows you who will be opening their window each evening and the proceeds go to charity.  This year for the first time there have been village Christmas cards and gift tags, printed by a local firm which didn't charge for them, so again proceeds going to charity.

Last night our community choir held its last meeting before Christmas and celebrated two successful concerts, drank mulled wine, ate mince pies and sang a lot of silly songs.  We will be walking round the village on Thursday evening in a torchlit processions singing carols, followed by ...you've guessed it...more mulled wine and mince pies.

Something odd is going on with our post deliveries.  We had no post at all on Saturday or yesterday and only 2 cards today.  We would have been expecting many more, so maybe it's true that card deliveries are being held back in favour of parcel deliveries.

It was dark by 4 o'clock today.  It's so gloomy. :(

I have had almost no post recently, only four cards up to today then a great pile !
Plus a letter cancelling the appointment with the eye Specialist last week,!

I spent most of the day trying to sort out my new eye drops which contain a Beta Blocker,my GP stopped Bisopralol - a Beta Blocker- because my heart was beating abnormally slowly ,so I get prescribed an eye drop containing a Beta Blocker!!!
I still have no news yet re the echo scan of my heart but know there are big changes from the last one so that plus the beta blockers - quite a problem.
However my query re the new drops resulted in the eye Consultant phoning me and saying the beta blockers in the drops are very low ,and should not cause any problems .
He is a lovely man and so kind , I did appreciate his kindness.

Spoke to my friend who has just lost her son ,we had a laugh and talked of old times, her son when a two year old was smelling some early forced rhubarb ,the pink sort with leaves which he thought were flowers ,which was sticking out of my shopping bag.
We have been friends for over 66 years.

Well got a good bit done today ,despite being on the phone such a long time. Then more tomorrow ready for travelling on Thursday.
I hate all the last minute stuff!
Hope you all have a peaceful Christmas, sad for some I know, but we are not being bombed or attacked, and that is a blessing .
I am thankful.
Cheerio and look after yourselves.
Viktoria.

Once I sit at this computer, whatever happens behind me doesn't bother me.

That is until I decided I ought to make an effort and take stock of what needs to be done in case of visitors..   The tree is up, the tree lights are sparkling.  this year I've only put up two large sparkly decorations hanging from the ceiling.

I've located and brought out the steam cleaner.  I wish I'd waited until a more suitably styled steam cleaner came onto the market as this one isn't very well designed.

One of my Christmas cards didn't get posted but got left on the table and now I doubt it will be delivered in time for Xmas due to the postal strike.

Here's wishing you all that you wish for yourselves.

Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy Prosperous New Year to everyone.

Royal Mail workers will strike on Friday, December 9, Sunday, December 11, Wednesday, December 14, Thursday, December 15, Friday, December 23 and Saturday, December 24. The strikes will affect workers who collect, sort, and deliver parcels and letters.

A bit goes wrong now and again, but how fortunate are we to escape what's going on. God help them, or Allah, someone anyway.
You've reminded me of my home made Rhubarb jam which is still alive and kicking in the fridge. It's brilliant with Gammon. I hope you have a lovely time at Christmas Viktoria. God bless and Merry Christmas to everyone.

Morning all
Our post seems similarly a bit ‘less than usual. ‘
Today is present wrapping morning as the grandchildren have now broken up from school so we are a child free zone.
