William Willson c1858
« on: Monday 18 December 23 11:34 GMT (UK) »
In 1901 William Willson, a widower, was living in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, with six children, occ.
Green Grocer.

1n 1911 William is living in Esh Winning, Durham, married, with four children born Cottenham and two children born in Esh Winning. He now works at a coal mine.
He married his second wife, Hannah Maria Foster, in Cambridge 1902 and had five children, three which died.

Can anyone see a record of the births of the children.

Hello
With his first wife Ann Smith at Chesterton
William Herbert Willson Sept qtr 1879 actual birth 18th July 1879
Henry John 30 April 1881 Sept qtr 1881
Arthur 15 Feb 1882 Reg June 1883 (so maybe a mistake on the 1939 index.)
Ernest Sep qtr 1886 as Wilson one L
Fred Dec qtr  1891 as Wilson with one L
Ethel Sep qtr  1896
Thomas June qtr 1900 born 23rd May.
Then we have
Charles Joseph Wilson June 1905 Lanchester died Sep 1905
Clara Wilson Sep 1906 Lanchester died Sep 1906
Ernest March 1907 Lanchester Durham died Sep 1908 ??
Alice Dec 1907 Lanchester Durham
Doris Mary March 1910 Lanchester
George F June 1914 Lanchester
Kathleen Sep 1916 Lanchester

That's from the birth indexes with their mother's maiden names but of course Ernest does look a little weird since the elder son was still alive.I can't see any baptisms.

Thank you. 14 children, gosh. It's interesting that William's occupation changed from Green Grocer in rural Cambridgeshire to working at a coal mine in Durham.

In 1901 Hannah Maria Foster was in hospital in Cambridge, I'm not sure which one. They married in Cambridge, so you do wonder why they moved all the way to Durham when there was plenty of work in and around Cottenham. (Chivers of Histon for example) Maybe Hannah needed to be near her parents.

Marriages Sep 1912

Forster    Isabella    Wilson    Lanchester    10a   586
Wilson    Matthew    Forster    Lanchester    10a   586

This couple appear in freesearch of 1921 with 2 children, George Forster Wilson aged 7 & Kathleen aged 4

Struggling to fit "Doris Mary March 1910 Lanchester" with 10mth old Dorothy May on the 1911 Census (taken 2 April).

Birth Registration
Doris Mary Wilson, Mar Qtr 1910, Lanchester, 10A 353 - mother's maiden name Bainbridge

Again freesearch of 1921 would suggest the last child born after Dorothy May 1910 is Robert

Births Dec 1912
WILSON    Robert    mmn Forster    Chester-le-S.    10a   1221

Think I spotted birth reg. of Margaret Melena (?) Wilson, mother Forster, Chester le Street, on the GRO site - which I thought might be one of the children that died. But didn't follow up.
