Help needed: diaries or stories of Royal Engineers in India 1945-48
« on: Monday 18 December 23 12:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for information on what life was like for the Royal Engineers in Northern India. My Grandad (deceased) was posted in Lahore, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jansey near Lucknow. He was a company sergeant major in the Royal engineers based in railway stations helping to get troops and equipment out of India.and similar stuff. Mainly he was with a few British troops and Indian soldiers mainly Sikhs.

His name was Ronald John Gordon. I'm currently in Northern India and would like to see if there any accounts from that time or sights to see. I'm visiting the Gateway of India at the end of my trip.
