Placename in Ireland
« on: Wednesday 20 December 23 21:43 GMT (UK) »
Sorry, I can't do the snips, but I'd be v grateful if someone could have a look at the name of a place in Ireland which is given as someone's birthplace in the census!

Joseph Wardle; lived Ibstock, Leicestershire; yob consistently 1800. All below gleaned from FindMyPast.

1841 "I" (for Ireland)
1851 Ireland
1861 Ireland Rala (Bala?)
1871 Ireland Kalily  (??? This time that first letter doesn't look like the R which appears further up the page in someone else's entry).

Many thanks in advance!

Rawson (Leicester)

There is a Balla in County Mayo. Haven't had any luck with the other likely names as yet.

In 1871 the census says  Kalily

Searching Kalily Ireland you get..................this
https://www.townlands.ie/kerry/trughanacmy/castleisland/castleisland/killally/

I cannot see the name Wardle in that area, sorry, or any other information.
The Wardle people were in Monaghan in the Tithe records.

Thanks all.

I think that Joseph is almost certainly the son of Abraham Wardle and Bede- no idea of Bede's maiden name. I'm wondering if Abraham was in Ireland in the militia. (Other threads going on this topic!) If I have some idea of where Joseph was born, I might be able to see if there's any history of militia being stationed there. It's a bit of a long shot but you never know!
