William Whitehouse
« on: Thursday 21 December 23 05:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,

I hope this is right.

I am looking for help to find some information about a William Whitehouse Born 1813 Frome, Somerset. Father Richard Whitehouse.

William would go on to join the 36th regiment of foot
service number: 902
enlistment year: 1832
age on enlistment: 19
document list birth: Frome.
father as: Richard Whitehouse.
Delistment location as: Bath

I have a marriage for William and Catherine who were married in Western Australia.
on the document it states his father as Richard.

Just wondering if anyone could give me a hand. I feel like I have looked everywhere but with no hope.

I have searched freereg, Ancestry, My heritage and Find my past
the closest I have got is:

Father: Richard Whitehouse
Mother: Sarah
Child: James Whitehouse
Born: 1810
Place: Frome

Father: Richard Whitehouse
Mother: Sarah
Child: Elizabeth
Born: 1814
Place: Frome

There is another option maybe?

Father: Isaac Whitehouse
Mother: Agnes
Child: William
Born: 1815
Place: Longport

Its the closest William Whitehouse born around that time.

any help you could give would be great.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Cheers
Michael

On William’s marriage does it give an occupation for his father?
What was William’s occupation, on immigration and on marriage, and after?
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

at the time of his marriage William is enrolled pensioner.
on his enlistment record Williams occupation is listed as tailor.

If I am looking at the correct couple in Australia, his religion was Roman Catholic.
I am not sure what catholic baptisms from Frome are available online.

With an occupation like a tailor, my thoughts are he would have been literate. Does he sign his name on documents? If so, you might expect his father to also be literate and in a similar occupation.

No, William makes his mark with an x on his enlistment.

Side note, Tailor could also be Sailor, depending on which document you read it is very unclear and the Ts and Ss look very similar.
