Joseph Stockdale 1798-1874 Whitehaven - can this photo be improved?
« on: Sunday 24 December 23 11:28 GMT (UK) »
Hello - this my wife's 3xG Grandfather Joseph Stockdale - a schoolmaster from Whitehaven Cumberland. Any help with improving this will be much appreciated. Any thoughts on dates - 1860s? This is a digital photo that I took of the original in Whitehaven records office.

Thanks

Martin

Thanks to both of you. A definite improvement.

Something I didn't mention - is his right hand deformed? It has been suggested that he had a club foot - could a deformed hand be connected in some way?

Thanks

Martin

Interesting question regarding a possibly deformed right hand, Martin. My take would be "not necessarily". I think the damage to the photo could give that impression, with all the white lumpy dots in parts of the image. In my try below I've given him a normal hand with the little finger tucked under the ring finger. What looks like an additional nail is a knuckle on his middle finger--I think ;D
Cheers, and happy Christmas. :)
