PoW location
« on: Tuesday 26 December 23 20:30 GMT (UK) »
According to the grand guerre website, Rifleman 608520 Frederick George Webb, London Rent was captured at a place called Fius - but I can't find this on a map.  Does anyone know if this is a place?

It also mentioned a town called (Laz) Valenciennes but I think that's the location of a hospital he was treated in (which I have found on a map).

Is it "Fius" or "Fins"? I see "Fins" on FindMyPast with a date 23 3 1918.

there is a "Fins" in the Somme departement - Hauts-de-France region"

Definitely looka like Fius but I'm sure you're right and that makes sense.  Thank you  :)

As you say, it is definitely "Fius" on one of his record cards,

Hendon & Finchley Times - 24 May 1918, 20 Dec 1918

First reported missing May 1918.
Place in brackets usually indicates where attested.

Thank you that's great.  I haven't got round to checking newspapers yet.  Am currently researching all the men on the Holy Trinity, Finchley memorial. :)
