Sarah Ellen Cahill
« on: Wednesday 27 December 23 07:25 GMT (UK) »
With all the past help, here and on other sites, I am about to say, "I give up."
A summary and the rest is here but I am computer BASIC (sorry)
. Please find.

Married to James Thomas Cahill. Baby Helen (Ellen) born 1888. And Sarah Ellen disappears.
James & Ellen reappear in 1901 Census but no sign off Sarah Ellen.
The wife and mother.
Don't want to waste people's time. Check previous inputs, but where is she ?
Not wanting to discourage you, but had an investigator employed who gave good return but no Whereabouts o Sarah Ellen Cahill b. 1870.

I live in hope but please check previous posts so noone wastes time.

Looks to me that they split up.
James remarried 1902 as a Widower, 1891 he may have been at Sea.

Marriages Jun 1887
Cahill    James Thomas        Liverpool    8b   343

Williams    Sarah Ellen

CAHILL, ELLEN       Mother WILLIAMS

I wonder if this is the 1901 census you refer to, you said that James was a rigger of ships in your earlier post, if so his wife is now Margaret?

If the above is correct was Sarah’s maiden name listed on her death registration?

Thanks to everyone for your interest.

To ColC, I can find no record of Sarah's death. That is the brickwall, combined with the whole family not appearing in the 1891 Census.

Our family folk lore story goes like this: In about 1895, Sarah sends her young daughter Ellen to the corner shop for milk. When Ellen returns, Sarah has disappeared. Fact or fiction? I don't know.
The disappearance could be the result of a bad marriage situation, mental issues or other triggers.

I continue to look for a solution.

After 7 years Sarah could be presumed dead and James would be free to marry again. It ties in with his remarriage in 1902.

Agree ShaunJ. Is this what is called the Benjamin Law?
Would still want to know what happened to Sarah.

She may be living with someone else as was often the case.
