Any help appreciated Geelong
« on: Wednesday 27 December 23 20:01 GMT (UK) »
Good day,

I have been researching and some of my family emigrated from Scotland to Australia in the 1950s.

I’m trying to find any information on my Great Uncle Robert Stirling Bryden, born on 26/02/1898 in Coatbridge to William Bryden and Margaret Agar and died on 1/08/1963 in Geelong west, Victoria, Australia.

Robert arrived in Fremantle in 1952 and we believe lived most of his life in the Geelong area. He was a chef for the athletes in the 1956 Australian summer Olympics.

What we would like to know is the details of his death, if he ever married and whether he had a family. Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Most of that information would be on his death certificate

I can see him in the electoral rolls.
No other Byden names at the same address that I can see.

Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

Thank you all

He must have remained a Bachelor then…. Also in find a grave for the cemetery that Robert is buried in there are no further burials with the surname Bryden.

So I’m assuming he was just a “ one man band”

I find it of interest that you can see on the VIC BDM index that whoever provided the info for the death cert knew the names of his parents. (Unless he was ill and thought to fill out the forms himself.)

Also of possible interest there is another of the surname on the Electoral roll in 1963.

BRYDEN Harry Greenhill.
36 Bellbird Ave Norlane. A driver.

On a map of the area,  note that street is very close indeed to the address of Robert Stirling BRYDEN,-- 79 Rose Avee Norlane,

Do you know of Harry at all .?
He died in 2012.

Death notice.

(Please do not mention names of any people still living :D)

Hi Sue,

The name Harry Or Greenhill doesn’t feature in my family…

The name Agar, Murray and Hill are his parents and Grandparents
