William Pearse m. 1843 Sarah Newton
« on: Saturday 30 December 23 00:21 GMT (UK) »
William and Sarah are in the 1851 census with their two children: Henry b. 1845 and Emily b. Dec. 1847.  Sarah's sister Elisabeth Nolan is also living with them in Cross St, Hamlet of Heigham.
I cannot find William / Sarah / Henry or Emily in any following census.
Any help please to find them.

Sarah's maiden name was Newton.

Hello,

This is the Census you mentioned - the places of birth etc are helpful to know

CENSUS 1851: Cross St, Hamlet of Heigham, Norwich

Wife: Sarah 28, Clean Starcher, b Norwich
Son: Henry 6, b Catton, Norfolk

This could well be Henry ( and he is also found in next 2 Census)
CENSUS 1891: Main Road, Cameley, Somerset
Head: Henry J PEARCE 41, Inland Revenue Officer (Excise Dept), b Catton, Norfolk
Wife: Eliz'th E PEARCE 31, b Crumlin, Monmouthshire

Son: Newton PEARCE 1, b Armley, Yorkshire
Sister-in-Law: Kate DAVIES 26, single,  b Crumlin, Monmouthshire
Servant: Clara L FORD 16, single, General Domestic, b Midsomer Norton, Somerset

MARRIAGE: 17 Aug 1886 in the Parish Church of Bedwelty, Monmouthshire
Henry James PEARCE, full age, Bachelor, Inland Revenue Officer, of Blackwood. Father: William Pearce, deceased
Elizabeth Eleanor DAVIES, full age, Spinster, of Mynydislwyn. Father: David Davies, Engineer

Emily Phyllis, b 1896 Lutterworth, Leicestershire

Newton ended up in Canada
WW1 Enlisted CEF, b 15 Sep 1889 -  Father H J Pearce as NoK in Lutterworth, Leicestershire

In the next two census after 1891, his PoB is Catton.  And on baptisms of children, Census etc the middle name 'James' / middle initial  'J' is present

Cheers

Still with Henry b 1845

Can only find the two Norwich Birth registrations for the 1851 children
Henry, Reg SQ 1845 St Faiths, MMS Newton
Emily Elizabeth , Reg MQ 1848 Norwich, MMS Newton

This then, may be Henry in 1871:
At 5 Bruce Rd, Bromley St Leonard, Tower Hamlets, London
Lodger: Henry J PEARCE 25, unmarried, Inl Rev Off'r Exc Dept  2nd Clap? Ap?, b St Faith Norfolk
In household of a Millwright, Richard Facy 50, and family - they have a 2nd Lodger, also same occ as James.[/b]

And in 1881:
At 2 Viewforth Place , St Peter, Dundee, Angus
Lodger: Henry J Pearce 35, Provision Officer Inlana Revenue Dpt Excise Branch, b England

(Not to be confused with another Henry Pearce, b abt 1845 Dorset, also an Excise officer, married Mary Score, and they are in Scotland in 1881 too)

Henry James Pearce
Died 1928, buried 23 Nov 1928 aged 83 years
Lutterworth

Emily Elizabeth , Reg MQ 1848 Norwich, MMS Newton

Baptism of Emily Elizabeth at Norwich, St John de Sepulchre on 12 Jan 1848 - birth 12 Dec 1847, fits with Q1 1848 registration if they were a bit slow in getting to the register office.

Only two children makes me wonder if William or Sarah (or both) died shortly after 1851 census

Writing this up.  Taking time.  How fabulous to get this info.
I was a little hesitant, until I saw the son's name 'Clement Alphonse'.  I had just been working on Clement's family (he is a brother to Sarah and Elisabeth.  Elisabeth married Alphonse Nolan and she was living with William and Sarah in 1851.  Maybe she took care of the two children if William and Sarah died before their time.  Will be checking for their deaths (William and Sarah up to 1886.

Really thrilled with this.  I  was having huge trouble trying to find them all.

Now will get on with gathering the information on the children of Henry J. Pearse and Emily.  Elisabeth their aunt also ended up in London so it may be that Emily was close by in the 1860's when she married at age 18yrs (possibly as both parents deaths).

More to do and loving it.  Thank you again.

That's fabulous!  So glad there was a connect to Henry James Pearce and his wife Elizabeth Eleanor ! For me it was the son named "Newton" but then for you to recognise the double connect re: "Clement Alphonse" kind of seals the deal  ;D

There is a lot to be found regards son Newton Pearce, including family researchers, some online trees at A**cestry.

I rather think the marriage and Census LizzieL found  :) is the right person - but similar to William & Sarah after 1851, I can't find Charles & Emily E Jury after 1871

1871: 2 Warwick Place, Plumstead, Kent
Head: Charles Dury or Jury, 26, Turner, b Maidstone Kent
Wife: Emily E  23, b Norwich, Norfolk
Son: Henry C, 4, b Plumstead, Kent
Son: William 1, b Rochester, Kent

Surname looks most  like Dury, with the D overwritten with a J ?

GRO Births
Henry Charles Jury MMS Pearce, JQ 1868, Greenwich
William Robert Jury MMS Pearce, SQ 1869, Woolwich

Aside from those 2 births, can't find others to fit  - except tere is a James Jury, mms PEARCE registered 1872 Southwark.

Cheers

Because my interest has piqued  :D I'm sure you have this but for those who may read and ponder  :D

MARRIAGE 1850:

Marriage: 13 Sep 1850 St Mary of the Assumption, Burnley, Lancashire
Alphonse Nolin - 63rd Regt.
Elizabeth Newton - Burnley
Groom's Father: Toussaint Nolin, of Norwich
Bride's Parents: James Newton, of Norwich & Sarah
Witnesses: Charles Eastwood, of Burnley; Alice Henshaw, of Burnley

63rd is (West Suffolk) Regiment of Foot?  but the baptisms of children indicate NW Militia (West Norfolk) - which in turn matches the 1861 Census - below:

CENSUS 1861: Chapel Street, Heigham, Norfolk
Head: Thomas Rowland, 32, Staff Sergeant, 1st West Norfolk Militia
Wife: Elizabeth Rowland 36, b Heigham, Norfolk
Son: Walter Rowland 9, b Norwich, Norfolk
Dau: Emely Rowland 1 yr, 9mth, b Heigham, Norfolk
Visitor: Emely Pearce 13 mth, Scholar, b Heigham, Norfolk

I think surname is mis-transcribed in the Enumerator's book  as Rowland & also think  Emely Pearce is 13 years, not months - age 13 matches her to be the neice. Her status was written as 'Scholar' then it was crossed out.

BAPTISM
On 2 Aug 1859 at Heigham, Norfolk:  Emily Nolin, daughter of Alphonse Thomas Nolan & Elizabeth Nolin, Sgt W N Militia
On 10 Aug 1859 at Heigham, Norfolk:  Walter Alphonse  Nolin, son of Alphonse Thomas Nolan & Elizabeth Nolin, Sgt W N Militia

CENSUS 1891 - in Stoke Newington, London
Head: Alphonse Nolin 64, Army Pensioner, b Norwich
Wife: Elizabeth 67, b Norwich
