Marriage lookup - Ipswich
« on: Saturday 30 December 23 01:59 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone kind check the details of the marriage between Charlotte ABLITT and William WALTER. Ipswich St Matthew, 15 Jan 1852. A photo of the register entry would be wonderful, otherwise details (esp the father...) would be very useful
Many thanks in advance

Many thanks for this, Trish.  The family were non-conformists, so useful info from the baptismal register.

Hi Ciderdrinker,

Many thanks for that. I'm actually interested in the Ablitts, rather than the Walters - but much appreciated nonetheless.

All good wishes,  Joan
(PS, I also enjoy cider!)

The baptism of son Henry born 9 October 1814 was not until 6 January 1816 son of John and his "late" wife Ann.

Suffolk Chronicle 26 August 1815. Under the heading Died.
On Sunday last after a long affliction, Mrs. Ablitt  wife of John Ablitt, silversmith of Ipswich.
--------------------

Other newspaper articles- Suffolk Chronicle
14 April 1821 John Ablitt - advertising for an apprentice
29 December 1837 - John Ablitt advertising for an apprentice
21 September 1833 John Ablitt selling  grey pony
2 October 1841 John Ablitt of Tavern Street selling his entire stock of clocks, silverware etc.
-----------------

He may have apprenticed with or he certainly knew William Kirk a clock and watchmaker who went
Bankrupt 1817.  Newspaper 1 February 1817 William Kirk has assigned all his assets to John Ablitt and two others re his bankruptcy.

That is really interesting and ties in with other info I have.
Poor Ann was only 24 when she died - I had assumed that she had died in childbirth
John Ablitt died in April 1842 - 6 months after that newspaper article, so was presumably failing

Thank you so much for those details J.
