Frome 1785 census
« on: Saturday 30 December 23 12:06 GMT (UK) »
Hello and Merry Christmas
Just a quick question
Does anyone know if the 1785 census is online anywhere?
I know there is a copy at Taunton archives and Frome Museum but I'm nowhere near there.

Have you tried contacting Frome museum.

What information are you hoping to get from it.

Hi
I'm looking for more info on these couples
Thomas Golledge labourer married Sarah Avon 1777
Jacob James married Lydia Golledge 1815.

The James family seem to be non-conformists and the Golledge's baptists.
I'm guessing Jacob James father and mother are Jacob and Sarah James nee Greenland but they have William ,Sussannah and Elizabeth baptised 1789 then  Joseph 1803. Jacob James is born c 1795 so would fit in .
Even the number of sons and daughters would help.

Thomas Golledge looks to have a brother John   born 1742 with a wife Hannah Hiscox in 1778 .They all go to the Baptist Chapel in Badcox Lane but no records of births before 1785.

Any help appreciated .I know it's a tough ask.
Thanks for any help

It does look as though a transcript has been online at some point on Frome and local history website, a couple of links took me there.  Mention of it was on https://cruwys.blogspot.com/ under Jeremiah Cruse.

It might be worth contacting the local history group to see if they can help.  I can go to the museum if necessary

There is  a John Golledge, a school master, living on east side of Catherine Hilol. The property is owned by a T Lacey. Also other Golledge.

I've not checked the whole 30 page transcript.

Just to warn you that the census only gives the head of the household, usually the husband and the number of males and females living there. These people are not named.
