We stayed up just to see the new year in and kept awake by watching "Jule's Hootenanny".  Big mistake, as he wheeled out performers who had been popular some 50 years ago  - Rod Stewart fronting a trio of leggy blondes and trying to dance, Paul Jones from Manfred Mann wavering his way through one of his old songs.  Oh dear, it really made us feel our age as we watched pop stars from our youth now wrinkly and wobbly.

There was an short burst of fireworks, probably from a nearby hotel, and then we made a dash for our bed. where the electric blanket was waiting to greet us.  The village is rather quiet this morning and we have no plans to do anything energetic.  My daughter tells me she has been for a run, stood on the grass in bare feet and had a cold shower - all part of her usual routine - and will soon be going out for a long walk with her family.  Oh, to be young and energetic!  My son is working, as usual.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful year. :D :D

We stayed up, and there were very noisy fireworks in the area, wet underfoot but not actually raining. Best wishes to all for 2024 - and as I mentioned on previous thread, my decorations will descend on 5th January. Always have done so they're down for 12th night.

Happy New Year to all!

We had a delicious dinner with friends eeking out four courses until nearly midnight… like Gillg we watched Jouls Holland… oh dear I’m afraid I agree with aging pop stars… to think I used to think Paul Jones wonderful! I was staggered to read he’s 81 so maybe he wasn’t doing so badly…

The fireworks on the Thames were very good we thought… by the time we got to bed it was gone 1.30 pm so not an early start this morning… who thought four people could use so many glasses over a meal 😂😂.

The weather started off sunny this morning but now it’s battering down with rain, we don’t really need anymore… my poor Son and D-in-law seem to have a river running through part of their property again despite all the drainage and culverts they’ve installed.. but not helped by the local council not doing their bit to maintain them! They live in Birkdale, Qld…

Take care everyone and hope 2024 is a better year for all.

I flew home this morning - made plenty of use of the Passenger Assistance at both airports ;)

Slight change in dining - Christmas Day was venison; New Year's Eve was reindeer. Both very tasty!
Boxing Day was at son-in-laws parents, and his family (15 of us!). Lamb, turkey and gammon.
Only 1 bottle of wine on the table - all for me :D

The porter was puffing and panting!
Bristol airport has lots of steps and ramps.
Fast tracked through security; bypassed the Duty Free shopping, too. :D

I don't drink much but red wine doesn't seem to agree with me, so if I do have a drink it has to be white or rosè.   LM
