Hi there,

The uploaded image is pretty much impossible to make out anything, unfortunately. It's the top entry? Are you able to give the name of the person you think/hopeit is?  the Census year and place , and the co-ordinates of the page?

Cheers

Sorry, the image is indeed very poor and trying to work out how to share a clearer version (IT not my forte..). Managed to turn the original into a pdf but still faffing. Will have a brew to see if that helps..

In the meanwhile, the entry is from SP. Unsure of the place shown in the first entry but connected to the Dell, Abernethy (or is it Rothiemurchus?)

Have you asked SP for a clearer copy? Use the Report Issue button, top right above the image on their website. They are usually very helpful.

Thank you Isabel, I’ve looked again at the entry on SP and it’s pretty good so the problem is actually my limited IT capability..I’ll take the issue off line to sort and get back when I have solved it.

Per newspaper mentions, he was indeed factor for the Earl of Seafield at Strathspey.

First thank you to mckha489 for tracking William Bryson down in this context and then Shaun’s corroboration.

Feeling slightly sheepish as I trained on the Seafield Estate, based in Cullen, over 40 years ago and remember his name from various documents but hadn’t connected in this instance.

I’ll show this one as completed but have another query about deciphering some wording in the same census which I’ll post anon.
