Immigration records if not arrived by ship
« on: Tuesday 02 January 24 13:28 GMT (UK) »
I'm used to searching for incoming and outgoing passenger listings - by ship. My father left NZ by ship, but returned about 3 months later,  to Auckland by flying boat - with his new wife (my Mother). Are their any records on line regarding people who flew into NZ?  He would have come to Sydney from Hong Kong. Then his plane from Sydney landed in Mechanics Bay, Auckland.  C Nov/Dec 1949

Have you had a look through family search - New Zealand, Archives New Zealand, Passenger Lists, 1839-1973.

No - I probably assumed it was shipping only. I have looked, and there is nothing to show his return.

Hello,

Not much help at all, for not coming into NZ, but for one of mine in the 1950's I came across an overseas Passenger and Crew Manifest.  Didn't tell me much apart from DOB/birth place, Date of Arrival, Airline  and flight number.  This was on Ancestry.

Cheers

THere are reports of some passengers arriving by flying boat in the newspapers. But only if there is something out of the ordinary. (Like arriving but not speaking English and causing problems for the customs declarations, or if a notable of some sort.)

Thanks everyone for your reponses. Just what I thought - the plane arrivals not available. I don't have Ancestry, so will need to wait until they have a freebie weekend lol.  Have a great 2024 - researching is so much fun.

I have previously found passenger records of flights into Australia in the Australian National Archives.
If the flight came into and left Sydney, you might find something there.
