Missing Sidneys
« on: Tuesday 02 January 24 20:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, before Christmas I found details of a death certificate online and sent for a copy which arrived today. My relative was Mary Ann Sidney nee Smith. She was born in St Pancreas (around 1811) and had married James Sidney in 1831 at St Pancreas in Islington and appears on the 1841 Census living at 33 Sandwich Street, St Pancreas and then in 1851 at the same address. By 1861 they have moved to 66 Cromen Street, St Pancreas.

After this I cannot find them until Mary died in 1882, she is by then aged 70 and listed as the widow of James who, according to the census, was born around 1801 in either St Pancreas or, as in the 1861 Census, in Lincolnshire. James was a brick layer and the address given on Mary's death certificate is 120 Blackstock Road, Islington.

I'm sure they must be on the 1871 and 1881 census somewhere, Mary at least, but I cannot find them or a date of death for James.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks, Luke

Can't help with your query but I assume you paid for a proper death certificate.  You do know that if you go to GRO website you can order digital birth and death certificates in most cases for about £2.50, which are available to download instantly.  Saves money unless you need a true certificate for legal reasons.

Tazzie, what a star, thank you on both counts!

LizzieW, I did order it online with GRO, the cost for birth and death certificates online is £7 per certificate and takes up to 7 days to be uploaded (I have had them within 5 days though).

Thank you both,
Luke

Tazzie, you are right, after another look the address in 1861 is Cromer Street.

Luke, there are usually options, certificate/pdf/digital.  Certificate costs the most, pdf is slightly cheaper and is a pdf copy of a certificate, digital just shows the relevant details without showing the whole certificate and is the cheapest option.  From my experience, every birth or death has the certificate or pdf versions as options and many more also have the digital option.  Over the years I've spent £100s on certificates, so I'm delighted that I can now get the much cheaper digital versions which give me the info I need.

I never knew that Lizzie - so for the cheapest option is it the full details but just typed up rather than a picture of the form itself?

Hi Lizzie, I was just too curious. I've ordered and received one immediately and at so much better cost.

Thank you, this will save me a fortune going forward.

Thanks, Luke
