Patrick Stewart

Yesterday I tried to enter details of Patrick Stewart's family on the Family Search website. I used the many family trees on Ancestry to help me with this and was doing well until I tried to find out more about his paternal line. It all seemed wrong - his father was supposed to be born in London but married someone in Yorkshire in 1933; his name was given as Alfred George Stewart but I couldn't find any births with that name registered in 1905; etc.

Anyway, I decided to start again from scratch and came up with a much more plausible candidate for his father. His date of birth was included in his baptism record (I love it when that happens!) and this matched the one in the death record of the Alfred Stewart who died in Yorkshire 1980. Also he was living in Yorkshire at the time of the 1911 census and so was at least in the right neck of the woods to have met Patrick Stewart's grandmother, Gladys Barrowclough.

The interesting thing is that the father of the Alfred Stewart that I found (i.e. the grandfather of Patrick Stewart) seems to have been someone called William Joseph Stewart, who was a member of parliament for Houghton-le-Spring between 1935 and 1945.

Here's what I've put together on the Family Search website:

I'm pretty sure that Patrick Stewart was the subject for "Who do you think you are" once and I wondered if anyone here saw that episode and if so whether his paternal side was mentioned at all?
Eva family in Devon and Cornwall.
Bowdidge family in Devon and Dorset.

I saw the "Who do you think you are" episode when it was first broadcast, but I can't remember any of the details now. However, there was a thread about it here, and apparently it concentrated almost exclusively on his father:

It's also mentioned in a couple of blogs/reviews:

And a search for him on the official WDYTYA YouTube channel produces a number of clips:
