Hello Ian,
I'm hoping you will see this. Here is a jpeg of what may be Rasmus Petersen's (or Peterson) name

I'd say 'Asimus Peterson'.

Is there another capital 'A' anywhere on the document?

Hi Goldie,
yes, I thought it might be Asimus too, but the name Asmus is common in Denmark, whereas Asimus doesn't come up in FamilySearch at all.
There is another "A"  in April on the far left of the doc attached.

Looks like the same letter "A' AuntNeena.

I wouldn't be too put off my the fact there is an extra 'i' in there.
This would be how the vicar in Devon would think the name would be spelt.
He would have no idea about how it was spelt in Denmark! And he would probably have a Devon accent himself.
The further back we go, the more we have to forget that words were spelt 'properly'!  :)

Hi AuntNeena
Yes I agree with it being Asmus Peterson.
I think Rasmus and Asmus can be interchanged.

Ian

Hello Ian,
Hope you are doing well. If you have the time in the next week or so, I was wondering if you might be able to translate this Danish church record from 1785. I was searching for Rasmus birth records and I may have found it. It lists his name as being Rasmus Petersen born on 16/8/1785, and I presume in the column to the right are his parents names. I'm attaching both the full page and a zoomed in portion. Any help is much appreciated!

Thank you,
Neena
