Need help deciphering this please
« on: Friday 05 January 24 03:54 GMT (UK) »
I think I have most of it. The high lited words are the ones I’m particularly stumped on. What I’ve been able to get so far is:

“I was a fully trained man when I went on 5 days leave. (?) of my brothers had been killed and when I got home I found my people were very upset about it.

I and __ upset too at the possibility(?) of my __ in __ to __ for the 2nd time. As I was a fully trained man I…”

Any and all help is much appreciated, thank you!

I agree, three of my brothers.

I think "possibility" is correct.

I think the last highlighted word is "France".

That was my first thought as well. I only know of him having three brothers, one of which I know wasn’t dead yet. So either he had a brother I didn’t know about, or for the sake of avoiding a desertion conviction was fantasizing the story. Although certainly he didn’t mean three brothers died at once. I know one of his younger brothers died at 10 years old, so perhaps he meant three brothers up to that point as he does finish the letter stating he is the only son left…etc. thank you for your help!

Thank you! Yes I had assumed France as well given he had already been in France for WW1 and had been sent back to England at this point for recovery from a wound. I assumed he meant being deployed to France for a second time. Just couldn’t make the words preceding it make sense given that assumption

"proceeding immediately to France"

Ahh yes that might be it! Given context as well he’s returned wounded from France almost killed. Returns home to learn one or more siblings have already died. He’s the only son left and is worried about being sent back now that he’s on the mend. That’s probably it. Thank you! Sometimes these old writings can be real puzzles haha
