Land and military records for 1600s - help wanted!
« on: Friday 05 January 24 07:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi all.
I have a protestant ancestor who was granted land confiscated from a catholic landholder in Co.Wexford. From what I have found it looks as though they were granted lands in leiu of payment as a soldier in the army (Cromwells?). Looking at the Down Survey project I can see the original landholder (1641) and my ancestor (1670).
What I am after is assistance from people who have already done this type of research themselves - they have a soldier granted land and have investigated military records and petitions relating to the Act of Settlement 1662(?).
I cannot see any information on Find my past regarding his military service. I am hoping to find something that links him back to his family presumably in England. Any ideas where I should look?
