Thomas Fenney's Parents

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me find/prove the parents of Thomas Fenney. From census records he was born around 1825/1826 in Pennington, Lancashire. He married Ann Southern in 1846, Leigh and had 6 children with her who were all born around Leigh (called James, Thomas, John, Alice, Peter and Joseph). The oldest record I have him on is the 1851 census (Green Lane End, Bedford, Leigh) with his wife, son and his wifes family.
The only thing I can find is a Thomas Fenney b.1828 living in Peasley Cross in the 1841 census with parents James and Hannah, although I'm not convinced it's actually him...
Just wondering if anyone can see any more possibilities, thank you for any help!!

What information does his marriage certificate give for his father

As Rosie says the marriage certificate (if you haven't got it) is the best place to start to find further information.

Thank you, I somehow missed that!
It looks as though the family in the 1851 census are definitely the right family - James and Alice Fenney (Bradshaw Gate, Pennington). But do you think they are the same family in the 1841 census at Peasley Cross? It says James is a Grocer rather than a shoemaker and his wifes name is Hannah instead of Alice- although maybe she was Alice Hannah?
