Ursula Burnham buried 4 March 1655, Eynsham, Oxfordshire. Supposed witch
« on: Saturday 06 January 24 20:22 GMT (UK) »
I am try to research the “supposed” witch, Ursula Burnham.
All I have is the burial records from 4th March 1655, on which, next to her name is, I believe, the latin word  “veneficia”, which would indicate a female poisoner or dabbler in witchcraft. I am not sure of the word preceding it though.
I am trying to find out more about her and even though I am researching it myself, I thought it might be worth asking on here, just in case anyone knows anything about her! 🧙🏻‍♀️🐈‍⬛

Have you thought about contacting Oxfordshire Family History Society - they may be able to suggest sources of information?

A small point: the word seems to be spelt venifica here.  It is more often venefica, I think.  It goes back to classical Latin (Horace).

Postscript:  The date of the burial is 4 May (not March).
