Missing ww2 Naval Records
« on: Sunday 07 January 24 13:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone help? I'm trying to trace Naval records for two of my uncles from the second world war. I think they were both based in Portsmouth and I know one was at Scapa Flow. I've tried Ancestry and Find my past and also national archives. I have no reg numbers for either of them unfortunately, only names and date of birth. Any help much appreciated.
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

These records will still be held at the Ministry of Defense; they are not available on any website.

If they were officers rather than ratings, you could trace their careers via the Navy Lists which are on the National Library of Scotland's website.

Unfortunately not officers. Both just in for the war. Thanks for the help, I think MOD is the next step. Do you know if their searches are free based?

It costs £30.00 for them to undertake a search.

I apologise for giving the wrong information. The system must have changed since I requested service from them. Sorry
