Searching for records for William Wright (1790-) of Rochester
« on: Sunday 07 January 24 15:16 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find Birth, Marriage or ANY records or information on William Wright (my ggg grandfather) born around 1790, in Kent, possibly Rochester. I know his Wife was called Sarah, but I don't have a surname, or much other info on them or their family.

The only record I can find for him, is the 1841 Census, living at Parrs Head Lane, Rochester with wife Sarah Age 50 and 2 children, but that's it. That said, I believe his death was around Oct 1869, but that's just a guess based on most likely death record.

His wife Sarah appears in the 1851 and 1861 Census (wife of Bargeman), living at the same address, but William is not listed. Can any of you wonderful sleuths find any more records on William, that I might be missing?

Children in 1841 are
Elizabeth 13
William 7

In 1851 Sarah's place of birth is Watchett, Somerset and daughter Elizabeth was born Rochester
..

Daughter Elizabeth Charlotte's baptism has fathers occupation as Seaman, William's has Mariner

ADDED

Possible burial for Sarah 12 May 1868 at St Nicholas, Rochester age 79 unfortunately no mention as to whether she was a widow.  This may be stated on the death certificate.
Her abode at the time was just listed as St Nicholas as were the rest of the entries on the page  ::)

Personally I would send for the death to check his occupation, marital status etc but

have you marriages for the 2 children?  One of them may say father deceased to give some clue.

Maidstone Gazette 16th September 1845 mentions breakdown of partnership of William Wright and Charles Wright of Maidstone, Hoymen, and mentions the vessel Elizabeth of Rochester.  William Wright took over the ownership and debts.

Perrys bankrupt & Insolvent Gazette also mentions this
