Gwenie Jones

Hi all, when the 1921 census came out I paid for a couple of one off look ups. One of George Jones Brickyard rd Newport born in 1885. Also at the address was a Gwenie Jones born in 1911. She is down as a great neice but I think she may have been a daughter of Margaret Jones. Apart from that I know nothing about her.

In 1901 there was a daughter Nellie with family. 1891 as Ellen, (Nellie is a pet name for Ellen)

Thank you Cas, how interesting. I was thinking she might be another daughter of Margaret who I believe was Nellies mother. I wonder how long they were in the workhouse and what happened to them both?, Phil.

As you say interesting, just looked up Ellen birth and no mmn on GRO.  If Ellen was the daughter of Margaret, and mother of Gwen...Gwennie would be great niece to George.

No workhouse records for Monmouthshire online on Ancestry, to my knowlege, try Gwent record office.

Having looked back at my older posts on this family/ Brickyard rd, I see that Steve100 helped in the past with electoral rolls and I see that she was living there in 1938(no sign of Nellie). On free BMD I can’t find a death after this date so I assume she married after 1938. It’s amazing after all these years of looking that going over old stuff throws something up! This subject came up yesterday on Facebook memories, Phil.

There is this marriage, it been logged twice him as Smith or Roome. Middle name Wilfred.

Looking them up in Newport 1939 her birthdate is 26 July 1911 so could be possible as DOB not always correct.

Clarence previously married 1930 to Mary Hilda O 'Brien. Mary died June Q 1931 possibly connected to childbirth as a daughter born same June Q 1931 to couple.

Rechecked GRO for birth of Gwendoline Jones in Sept Q 1911 Newport only one born Newport. Unless Mrs Roome was born elsewhere.

Thank you once again Cas, looks 99.9% her/ them. Unfortunately as far as I can see, there were 2 Ellen Jones born in 1891 in Newport.
