MrsL,

Are you able to tell us:

what Donald's father's occupation is recorded as on the m/c?

the names of the witnesses on the wedding day?

Also - what was Donald's 'place of residence' on that day?

Thank you.

Given the timing in 1939 it's possible Donald had just been posted to South Wales before the marriage, and had no other connection to the area

Hello all

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes my great grandfather was donald mcgillivray.

Apologies i spelt it as mcgillivary as his son gordon changed the spelling when an adult and my maiden surname is now spelt mcgillivary so automatically revert to that spelling.

Donald was age 20 when he married my great granny margaret paxton 8th july 1939. Witnesses were George henry paxton and elsie paxton. (Brother or dad and her sister)

Donalds father william mcgillivray is listed as deceased.

Donalds residence at time of marriage
Was RAF ST ATHAN GLAMORGAN.

Thanks in advance

Some history

RAF St Athan - The station officially opened as RAF (Royal Air Force) St Athan on 1 September 1938 and the first unit to take up residence was No. 4 School of Technical Training (4SofTT)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOD_St_Athan

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraftman

Servicemen came from all over, as mentioned, Donald may have had no links to Wales other than being stationed in area.

The surname could be linked to Scotland would also try searching https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Not finding a suitable match England/Wales. Info from his service record may help not sure if available from MOD, maybe ask on the military board...

Hope this helps

Cas

Update - so i have managed to locate a distant relative of my great grandmother who is in her 90s who knew of his existence. She had advised that Donald was very scottish - so i guess he was only posted to Glamorganshire. He was there as part of the RAF and they did indeed divorce - he was still married to my great grandmother 1942 when she had another baby but he was not the biological father.
