There is a Daniel Nichol at Wigton workhouse in 1851, but this may be too far out of the area you are looking.

Many thanks for your post. I believe this Daniel Nichol to be Dan Glaister Nichol born 1840 in Wigton. His mother was Ruth who remarried in 1846 and by 1851 scotland census was living with her new husband.
