First name I can't read.
« on: Wednesday 10 January 24 19:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking at an old passenger list where relatives came over from south Africa to England
in 1910

***I am looking to see what the top persons first name written there is in the attached pic?

We assumed it was their father Lewis Edward Vowles the father because of the middle and last name match. That doesn't look like Lewis to me.
---
The other known family on the document are:

Harriett Ann Vowles (mother)
(Sons)
Rodney E Vowles
Eric Vowles
Cyril Sydne Vowles
---

The living person I am talking to said that in the mid 1950's he went to Rodney's house as a young man and was introduced to someone Rodney called his brother Al·be·it?

They were of British origin but lived in South Africa and Zimbabwe if that helps.

I agree - the 'L' has a loop at the end of the bottom part, and the 'w' is tiny, as seen also in some of the 'Vowles'.

Also it would be normal in many kinds of document, as with censuses, to list them as father, mother, then the children in age order.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Rodney's mother, Harriett Ann Vowles, born Widdowson, formerly Shepperson died in Durban, in 1944. Her death certificate mentions only three sons: Rodney Edwin Vowles, Eric Vowles, and Cyril Sydney Vowles.

Could this "brother" being referred to be a Shepperson, whether a half or step-brother?

The death record for Lewis, in 1947 also just states the 3 names sons:
