Meaning of A/Rank and S/Rank on WWI Discharge Papers
« on: Thursday 11 January 24 11:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I've downloaded a copy of the "Record of Proceedings on Discharge" document for my GGF Thomas Henry William Hicks for his service in WWI.

In the upper section of the document, it has two fields "a/Rank: R.S.M" and "s/Rank: Pte".  What does the abbreviations a/Rank and s/Rank field mean? As to the military rank I am assuming R.S.M is "Regimental Sergeant Major", and Pte is "Private"?

I've attached the document if you'd like to see it in full.

Thanks for any help.

Simon.

Acting Rank and Substantive Rank.
I agree with "Regimental Sergeant Major" and "Private".
