If you look at Lancsopc.  there are several baptisms for this family.

https://www.lan-opc.org.uk/

This is interesting
20th December 1868
John Thomas Delany - son of John and Catherine (formerly Morris)
Born 10th December 1868
Abode Lord’s Hill Str
Godparents Richard Mullany and Mary Cowan

I would think that there is an error in the birth details with mmn Walsh.

I'm confusing things here, and confusing myself too. Looking at the Lancashire free BMD I can only find John Thomas Delaney as having mothers maiden name of Walsh. I think I have just jumped at things that are not there and followed a completely incorrect line. I can find lots of Morris on the Lancashire Parish Records but no Walsh are coming up.
Thanks Heywood.

The baptism transcription gives Catherine’s name as Morris.

It does look as though you have the right birth certificate but the name was entered wrongly.
I am trying to hear ‘Walsh’ and ‘Morris’  - do they sound similar?
She makes her mark so presumably coukdn’t read either and just trusted that the information was correct.

I think they must be two different men, yours was baptised the year before mine was born. What I need to do now, somehow, is to confirm if the one I have in my tree is correct or if yours is actually my ancestor.

It is a puzzle.
The witness Mary McManus was a servant to the priests at St Mary’s by the looks of it.
One of the priests is James Conway but your witness is Joseph.
The only thing I can think of, is that they didn’t register the baby until much later and then gave a false date. I think there was a penalty for late registration.
You might think that a bit far fetched though.

I can’t see any other possible births.

Catherine can be both Morris and Walsh, if she was a widow when she married John.
