William Grimason & Isabella Sprint
« on: Saturday 13 January 24 18:45 GMT (UK) »
Hello.  I am trying to locate further details on my 4th great grandfather Archibald Grimason (sp).  He is listed as William's father on the marriage certificate (to Isabella Sprint).  Interesting though,  William's death certificate, lists Thomas as father; mother unkwn.

I have searched Ireland, England, and Scotland with zero results on William's birth record, birth, marriage or death records for Thomas, Archibald.

Archibald and William were both weavers; zero results trying to find them in Armaugh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you Katrina

Isabella's residence is Derryhale, William's is Ballyworkan.

https://www.townlands.ie/armagh/oneilland-west/kilmore-oneilland-west-portion/aghory/derryhale/

If William hadn't strayed from his birthplace then the parish is Drumcree.

From this list of Church of Ireland registers, there is some coverage of Drumcree at RootsIreland.ie.

https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers/ParishRegisters/PARISHREGISTERS.pdf

Colour coding shows:

(No colour) Parishes the records of which records remain in local custody.

For parishes located in the nine counties of Ulster, and additionally some for county Louth, microfilm copies of most collections of surviving registers (up to the early 20th century) are available in PRONI. For details consult PRONI’s online catalogue: http://www.proni.gov.uk/

Note that local clergy in both NI and ROI are however obliged to make available original registers in their custody available under both national legislation and in accordance with the Constitution of the Church of Ireland

I found this info on William's son Thomas Whitley Grimison:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/167845958/thomas-whitley-grimison

Quote
Thomas Grimison, 12 S. 13th St., husband of Mrs. Ada I. (Irvin) Grimison, died at 6:55 a.m. yesterday in the Allentown hospital, where he was admitted for medical treatment on July 9.

Although Mr. Grimison would have celebrated his 90th birthday anniversary on Dec. 16, he was, until the time of his illness one month ago, actively engaged in business for himself as a wholesale jobber in stationery, candy, and tobacco.

In March of this year, his warehouse, the Pan-American Specialties Co., at 176 Spring St., West Easton, had been completely burned out, and he had just finished rebuilding it before he became ill.

Until he was seriously injured in an accident in Bethlehem two years ago, he still was driving his own car. At the time of the accident, his left kneecap was removed at St. Luke's hospital. Even with this handicap, he was able to get around without crutches or cane.

Born in County Armagh, Ireland, he came to this country with his parents, William and Isabella (Spring) Grimison, when one year old, in 1858. Originally settled in Delaware county, he moved with his business to Easton in 1898. He has resided in Allentown since 1913. His home, until two years ago, was at 1645 Turner St. Mr. Grimison and his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 8, 1945. They were married in Huntingdon.

Surviving, besides his wife, are: a son, Thomas I. Grimison, of Balboa, C. A., now retired, who as an engineer helped build the Panama Canal and had been connected with its operation until two years ago; and another son, J. S. Grimison, Glenside; a daughter, Mrs. George A. Lawrence, Allentown; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a brother, John, Chester.

Funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the J. S. Burkholder funeral home, 1601 Hamilton St. Interment in Easton cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Yes, this is my maternal lineage.  Thomas I. was my grandmother's brother.  I am trying to go further back to William's father; William married Isabella Sprint.

Not much to report...

On a side note. As I have come to gather from my searching  in Portadown/Lurgan area there were many , many Grimison's employed as tailors! So many...

Anyhow I did not find the illusive Thomas as of yet. I did find Grimison weavers near Ballyworkan. One Ann Grimason wedding from 1846 stood out.

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1846/09302/5368053.pdf

She is the daughter of a weaver named William Grimason and there in the witness section ... Thomas Grimason. I would take that as an indication this could be the Thomas in question. He could be brother to this William. Worth looking into possibly.

Here's another instance of Thomas Grimason witnessing a wedding. This time for Henry Grimason.

In the 1864 Griffith's Valuation there is one Thomas Grimason and he resides in Loughgall
