Need help reading 1793 Roscommon baptism records
« on: Sunday 14 January 24 17:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello, it's me again, humbly asking for help.

I believe I have found the baptism records for my GGGGrandmother, Winifred Crane.  I'm thrilled that I found the information -- and I can read enough of the Latin to read her parents' names -- Martin Cryan and Maria Mullany -- but I can't decipher the rest of the entry.

This is copied from Ireland, Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915, Elphin Boyle, 1793-1827.  The date of baptism is 14 October 1793; page 12 of 190; the entry is on the right page, second from the bottom.

I wish I could read it, but the handwriting is ... well ... I need help.

Let's see if I can post a snip image ...

WOW!  How on earth did you do that!?? I'm so impressed!

... and so very grateful.  Thank you!  Knowing the names of the godparents is extremely helpful!

What could "of a humble family" mean?  Humble in temperament or humble in financial condition?

Every entry on this page except one has the same phrase, familie humilis. The one exception is an illegitimate birth. Maybe one of our Irish experts can explain?

Maureen99,

It's much better to use the "Attachments and other options" image insertion rather than 'PostImage', which often cannot be viewed.

When you click on “reply”, under the white text box where you type is “Attachments and other options”. Select that and then click “Choose File”. Ensure that you have a unique file name, by just adding your initials or a numerical date.

**Edited to add**
I notice you were practising on this thread using 'PostImage'.

The important thing is that you had success, so quickly.  That’s all that matters!

I'm astonished by the fast and accurate information that I'm getting at this site.  You are all so kind and so knowledgeable.  I'm new here, and so far it's been a true pleasure.
