It(e)m present(ant) quod Thom(am) Raymnd* ten(et) 1 cotag(ium) in mylbornporte
iux(ta) hospiciu(m) voc(atum) Le george et Redd(it) p(er) A(nnu)m – iiijd

Item, they present that Thomas Raymnd* holds one cottage in Milborne Port, next to an inn called The George, and he pays fourpence per year.

   * there’s a suspended letter above the name, presumably a vowel, but it’s hard to identify.

To save keying all the Latin with brackets etc ...

Item, they present that Henry Owdal* esquire holds at the will [of the lord] 2 closes, of which 1 is called Tapsclose and the other is called Brodeclose, containing in total 5 acres, by estimation, and he pays 9 shillings per year, all of which the aforesaid Henry has demised to Richard Frye by indenture for a term of years, without permission; therefore he is ordered to take possession of the land and to show by what title he holds the aforesaid land.

     * unusual name, perhaps a variant of Udall ?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, your help is invaluable!

I hadn't come across the name Owdal/Owdale either but I have found it here https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7494555 so it seems to be correct.

A small point, but the text can't read Thomam because the quod clause requires that word to be nominative.  I wonder if the word could be a contracted form of Thomasin, which is a feminine equivalent.

Mm, that's interesting.  The parish registers for Milborne Port 1538-1598 were copied onto parchment by the then vicar William White and arranged in alphabetical order by Christian name.  This is the first time I have found this to be helpful as opposed to extremely unhelpful.  I can't see any sign of a Thomasin, although I did find a burial for a Johan wife of Thomas in 1579.  Going forward (or is it backwards?) I shall bear Thomasin in mind.

Many thanks both
