Marriage in Limerick Cathedral 1827
« on: Monday 15 January 24 07:26 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,   In June 2023 the following newspaper notice was added to the FindMyPast collection.
At that time I was able to access the marriage registers of St. Mary, Limerick online but could not
locate this marriage and now wonder whether 'The Cathedral' refers to St. Mary or perhaps
St. John?  The notice was published in the Limerick Chronicle on 22nd. December, 1827.
The religion of the groom was Church of Ireland.

I have tried again to access the marriage registers of both churches without success.  Can anyone
help me to locate these online again?  Any help to locate this marriage would be appreciated.
The surname variants are Maunsell, Maunsel, Mansell.

Regards,  Jen.

The Church of Ireland Cathedral in Limerick city was St. Mary's. I dont think the registers are online on FindMyPast.

Thanks athacliath, I'm not a subscriber to FindMyPast, I located the news item at my local library.
I may have found the church records via FamilySearch but that does not appear to be an
 option now.

Rev. Henry H. Rose is listed as a Church of Ireland minister for Limerick Diocese in several directory listings, e.g. Treble Almanac, so I'd be pretty certain the marriage was in the church of Ireland cathedral. Unfortunately Church of Ireland records for parishes are often not available online.

Thanks Sinann,  I'm sure you are correct, I have come across Charlotte in a Jones family
settlement deed, the marriage date is helpful.

Thanks also for the COI  info.  I am having difficulty linking Mary Monsell/Maunsell
with a specific family, this newspaper item is the only reference I have for the
wife of William Jones.  There is a George Maunsell who was customs collector
for Limerick married to Frances Fitzgerald Magrath who could be her parents but
Mary is not recorded in any relevant records as their daughter.  The only clues
that this could be her family are the names given to Mary and William's children,
Richard, George and Frances Maria, all Maunsell family names connected to George
                        Maunsell, collector.

Thanks athacliath, the details on the Rev. Rose are very helpful and with your help I now feel
confident that the marriage was at St. Mary, Limerick.

It is my own fault that I did not record the details of the online registers.  I do recall that I
scrolled through countless pages of church records for Limerick Co. and the St. Mary records
were tacked onto the end.  When I didn't find the marriage record at St. Mary I assumed that
I was mistaken about the Cathedral being St. Mary.  It is a lesson learned.

After some more searching online I believe I used the IGI for the the parish registers.  The IGI
has pre 1845  Church of Ireland parish registers for Limerick City.  The only issue now is they
may not still be available online.

Worth noting.
Transcript of Limerick Deaths from Limerick Chronicle
https://www.limerickcity.ie/Library/LocalStudies/ObituariesdeathnoticesetcfromtheLimerickChronicle/
Lots of Maunsell deaths
There is a Frances wife of George from Milford 1847, looks like George died 1835 but it doesn't give his occupation although looking in the Newspapers he seems to be Esq. and had son George (2nd son) married Eliza Butler 1825
A son Robert passed an Exam in Trinity College 1831
A brother Richard died 1834

Ah he was involved in Customs.   Limerick Chronicle Jan 1835.
By the lamented death of the late George Maunsell Esq of Milford....... the gist,  a pension of £1,500 goes to the Crown as he was collector for the port of Customs and Excise before they were divided into two departments

Perhaps some of these names will have popped before for you.
