Democratic Republic of Congo - Resources

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has attempted any research into ancestors in The Congo at all?

My great grandfather lived there between 1915 and 1929 I believe (possibly later). Recently I got a close DNA match with somebody from The Congo and it appears he may have knowingly or unknowingly had a family there. The individual who matched on the DNA doesn't know much about her parents apart from the names as she is adopted but having looked at what resources there are I don't think there is much to be able to research such as census records or birth registers.

This individual is the only Congo match I have which I guess isn't surprising given costs of DNA kits etc but just thought I would enquire on the off chance if somebody has ever done some research in that part f the world!

Thanks, I don't have much info - here is all I have

I have records from the "Annuaire du Congo" that confirms my ancestor John MacKenzie (McKenzie) lived in Kinshasa between 1924-1928 and in 1929 he was in Leopoldville. I know he was there before 1924 as I have the ship records of his travel in 1915 and 1919 but not sure where he lived. He worked for the "Huileries du Congo" which was a subsidiary of the Lever Brothers.

In regards to the confirmed ancestor all I know is her name was "Asia Harubu" and she was born around 1976 in the Congo but I don't know where but it will have been one of her ancestors (as her daughter is the one that took the DNA test and has a very close match to my grandmother who was John MacKenzie's daugther) that would have been John MacKenzie's son or daughter. I know that is not much to go at the moment through.
