I did have a look to see if Singapore BDM are available online.

Looking at the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority web page it looks like certain relatives can request a search for a death - but you need to know approximately when it occurred and it looks quite expensive.

There are also cemetery records - some online - though from a quick scan I couldn't see a GAUNTLETT

a few more fragments emerge!

I am told that:
 J A H Gauntlett was a Civil Servant based in Singapore so he worked for the British Government but I don’t know in what capacity. His travels were marked V for vacation including a 1st class trip around the world. He banked with Coutts in Park Lane London and that bank tended only to have fairly wealthy customers. His visit to the UK was marked as for 3 months. I guess it’s possible he retired in his fifties as a Government pension for a senior civil servant would have been generous in those days and he was a single man.
